LGA

January was certainly = not one of our better weather months.&nbs= p; We didn't get to play much golf, but our Pine Forest ladies repre= sented us well at the January CALGA tournament held at Kiawah Island.  Barbara McGauhey won low gross in= her flight (missed field low gross by 2= strokes), Cathy Brennan also won low gross in her flight and Barbara Karns= won low net in her flight.  = Way to go, ladies!  We do hav= e a few reminders for our lady golfers. If you plan on joining the LGA, due= s ($30) must be paid to Susan Gerdes (333 Prestwick Ct) by February 15th so= we can get our program booklets out in time for league play, which begins = in March.  We do have tee-tim= es on our league play days, Wednesday and Saturday, at 9:30, so you don't h= ave to wait until March to join us! If you would like to give us a try, com= e on out and play.  The LGA i= s open to any lady Pine Forest member, and you can establish a handicap as = you play with us if you like. Our Kick-Off Scramble will be held February 2= 7th with a 10:18 start, so save that date.  The sign up sheet for that will be in the ladies' lockeroom = soon.  We would love to see s= ome new faces.  The LGA has g= olfers of all skill levels, and some of us have very little in the way of s= kill! It is a fun way to socialize with other women golfers and we truly wo= uld like any interested golfers to give us a try.

COUPLES GOLF

Well, January's event = was definately "non-eventful". We decided to cancel it, as we had been havi= ng such cold, wet weather (plus your leadership was a bit slack in getting = the sign-up sheet out). Turned out to be rainy Saturday, but not so cold. L= et's hope February will be better! The sign up sheet is in the pro shop, th= e date is February 20th with a 2:00 pm tee time, dinner to follow play.  We have no hosts, so if someone= would like to volunteer that would be great. Otherwise, your previously me= ntioned slack leadership will come up with some kind of format.  Remember to sign up before Wednesday, = February 17th, and to let us know if you need to cancel after that (phone Z= ipters at 873-6091) so we can adjust the head count for dinner and get the = pairings right. We look forward to a great year, and hope y'all will join i= n the fun.

SRMGA

The January SMGA= Tournament was played on Tuesday, Jan 12 under cold weather conditions.&nb= sp; Due to the cold morning forecast, the Tournament Director and the Presi= dent arranged for a 12:30 shotgun start following a hot spaghetti lunch.&nb= sp; The plan worked well since the delay allowed the temperature to&nb= sp;come up to approximately 50 degrees with a 10 to 15 mph breeze.&nbs= p; We had 28 participants on seven teams.

Team Bernard (St= eve, Al Dixon, Gene Youngstedt, John Majewski) won with a four under 68.&nb= sp; The format was a Step-A-Side Scramble.  Steve Cotter took closest = to the pin honors on holes 5 and 8, Joe Vadala on hole 17 and John Majewski= on hole 13.  Everyone had a fun time and made the best of the chilly = weather conditions.

Our next Tournam= ent will be February 9, and will be a Captain's Choice (3 Clubs Only). = ; Come out and enjoy the fun.  Hopefully it will warm up a little for = our next event.

Spring is in the = air, sometimes a little cooler then we would like to have it at times. But = we are back on the courts and ready to take on another season. We have 14 t= eams playing out of PFCC that will keep the courts active with lots of grea= t tennis. We want to invite those of you that might not be playing on a tea= m to come out and watch, cheer on and have a fun time hanging out at the ca= bana. A note from the cabana , we will be opening the cabana up on March 1s= t for all our tennis matches. Until then over the next 4 weeks the bar at t= he restaurant will be open for everyone to enjoy and warm up after all your= matches.

Our courts went t= hru a lot this year with the cold weather, but we are getting them back in = shape. We have always worked hard on having some of the best courts in the = low country and this year will be no different.
